Quick note: We’ve given these essays little titles like “On Ceremony,” just as a simple way of naming them, since we’ve removed identifying information. Also, traditionally speaking, the structure “On ____” is the fancy-schmancy way of titling personal essays going all the way back to Montaigne, and here at Admission Statements LLC, our fanciness is exceeded only by our schmanciness.
It may seem like we’re violating our own “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” principle, but before you go calling us hypocrites, just know that none of these former clients set out to write “on” anything. They just set out to tell their story: to say something true about who they were and why they wanted to go to law school. We went through and added these titles afterward.
On Independence
“When I was nine, my mom put my younger brother and me on a bus.”
On Winning
“On the wall of the Utah Blaze locker room is a massive blackboard. Inscribed on the board in large white letters is an inspiring (and very long) sentence.”
On Debate
“On my last day working at Fox News, a coworker asked me why I was going to law school.”
On Advocacy
On Ceremony
On Ideals
“On our second morning alone together, my son stole my glasses.”
